Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court after March of that year.

Success also indicates he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
