Each time a prominent prize-giving event nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
- Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
